Giuseppe Bernardino Bison was one of the last and arguably most accomplished artists to work in the 18th-century vedute tradition in Italy.  Though his career was somewhat disjointed, due to the travel demands placed on him by a wide variety of decorative commissions, Bison was able to maintain an enviably high standard in his work, resulting in his gouaches being highly sought after by local collectors and "Grand Tourists" alike.  See also the following lot.
