Description
- Robert Frank
- 'NYC' (Nurses)
- gelatin silver print
signed, titled 'NYC,' and dated in ink in the margin, the photographer's credit and archive stamps on the reverse, framed, 1961, probably printed later
Provenance
Sotheby's New York, 16 May 1981, Sale 4611B, Lot 477
Condition
This print, on double weight, semi-glossy paper, is in generally excellent condition. There is a one-inch crease in the sky area and a one-inch crease in the center portion above the nurses, neither of which appears to break the emulsion. In the upper margin there is a 4-inch scratch and there are several sharp creases in the upper left margin corner that appear to break the emulsion. The outline of Frank's darkroom easel, which held the paper during exposure, is visible in the lower margin.
On the reverse, the credit stamp is signed and dated '1980' in pencil. '716' and '189' are written in an unidentified hand in pencil. The reverse is overall soiled, scuffed, and yellowed along the edges.
