Original canvas. There is craquelure throughout, some of which is lifting slightly but appears to be stable at present. There are frame abrasions along the edges with some associated paint loss. The surface is covered in a light layer of dirt, with a few scattered spots in places, notably to the sky above the smoke. Inspection under UV light does not reveal any obvious signs of restoration.
