Catalogue Note
Jean-Michel Moreau's illustration was engraved by Jean-François Prot and Pierre-Paul Prud'hon's painting by Barthélémy Roger for the 1806 edition of Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre's hugely popular novel, first published in 1788, about two lovers on the island of Mauritius.
