Catalogue Note

The arms are those of Cavendish impaling FitzGibbon for Francis William Henry Cavendish, nephew of the 7th Duke of Devonshire, who married in 1856 Elinor Sophia FitzGibbon, 3rd daughter and co-heir of the 3rd Earl of Clare.

Arthur Grimwade notes that Craig's late husband, John was a partner with George Wickes, circa 1730-35 and that David Craig, who was probably the ꦉCraigs's son, was apprenticed to Wickes in 1731.

With regard to Mrs Craig's short-lived partnership with John Neville (1740-45) Grimwade adds 'what little work has survived bearing this mark is 🐬of high quality andඣ individual taste. . . '

A very sim💛ilar set of four candlesticks of 1740, also Craig & Neville, was sold at Christie's, New York, 30 October 19ও90, lot 239.
