the zitan example carved to one side with the image of an ancient coin accompanied by a short inscription, the reverse with a poem to the carver's friend, signed Tong Fu; the boxwood example carved with a motif of overlapping coins on one side, a further carved coin and inscription on the reverse, additional carving at the finial, signed Yong Quan (2)

Collection of Emmanuel Gran (1894-1969), Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Condition
Both in good condition with very little surface wear. The zitan handle with a few a few small dots of black ink (especially at the coin carving), the metal pin missing, and an old label attached by string to the pierced finial ("7962"). The boxwood handle with an old label attached by string around the shaft ("7963").
