- A small archive of papers of an American expatriate working in the oil industry in Saudi Arabia, 1940s

Comprising 26 labelled files containing manuscripts, letters, mimeographed typescripts, printed pamphlets, newspaper and magazine cuttings, photographs, and banknotes, including files labelled: "Guns & Ammo Information" containing a spiral bound notebook (c.50 pages, plus blanks); "General Info Re: Saudi Arabia" containing a mimeographed typescript memorandum on life in the kingdom for Aramco employees, 11 pages; "Saudi Arabia Photographs" containing 36 snapshots mostly relating to the oil industry, 24 mounted on five leaves from an album, most captioned;"Verne Memoirs" containing typescript and handwritten notes and reminiscences on Saudi Arabia and other subjects, 8 pages; "Correspondence to/from Home" including a letter by Verne Campbell to his wife (5 pages, 6 February 1944) and other correspondence; "Dharhan Conference Agenda 1945", containing typescript and handwritten minutes, 6 pages, March 1945; all housed in a large manila envelope
Provenance
These papers were kept by Verne Martin Campbell, who was employed as a general clerk for California Arabian Standard Oil Company (later Saudi Aramco) from April 1943 until at least March 1945, based in Dhahran Camp.
