Catalogue Note
FROM THE LIBRARY OF PETER HOPKIRK. RARE, this is the only copy to appear at auction in over 20 years. According to the preface the author was a Greek brought up in Constantinople who served as secretary to a Grand Vizier during the reign of Mustapha III (1757-1774). He eventually entered the Russian service where he met Captain John Elphinstone, who recommended him to the publishers. BMC suggests the work is pseudonymous.
