Literature
Carsten Thau & Kjeld Vindum, Arne Jacobsen, Copenhagen, 2002, p. 525
Condition
Overall very good original color and condition, light natural wear to surfaces and extremities commensurate with age and gentle use. The chair and ottoman each retain their original leather upholstery. The leather upholstery to the chair remains in very good condition – supple and with no rips or tears, apart from some minor areas of rubbing wear to the upper back edge corner of the back rest. The ottoman also retains its' original leather upholstery, however the surfaces have slight cracking to the grain, but there are no splits and overall the leather remains supple. Overall in our opinion the chair and ottoman present well with good age patina. The chairs swivel mechanism remains in working condition and the aluminum pedestal to the chair and ottoman all remain in very good original condition. The chair and ottoman each retains a firm structure.

Catalogue Note
Rarely seen at auction, Arne Jacobsen’s “Ox” Chair is thoroughly modern and of impressive size. The angular, masculine form is void of superfluous detail, yet remains exceptionally comfortable and luxurious for the sitter via its sumptuous leather and plush cushions. Designed over the course of five years, the piece was never designed to accompany any specific interior. Instead, it went into production for just a few short years before being discontinued, further emphasizing its rarity today. An exceptional marriage of form and function, the “Ox” Chair remains an icon of 20th century Scandinavian design.
