Condition
Very good condition overall. As visible in the catalogue illustration, the front of the base is broken. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Beautiful brown patina, with brown nuances.

Catalogue Note
Brandis lors des danses en l’honneur de la divinité (orisha) Shango, les oshe shango traduisent, par leur iconographie, tant la nature du dieu que celle de l’orant qui lui adresse ses prières. La prêtresse, représentée agenouillée, tient un emblême Oshe Shango d’une main, et de l’autre une crécelle en forme de gourde. La beauté de cette figure, exaltée par l’harmonie parfaite des proportions, culmine dans la tête couronnée par les deux celts de la hache, attribut de la divinité Shango. Le visage aux formes pleines, la bouche détaillée et les yeux losangés – la paupière bordée de fines incisions - témoignent du travail d’un artiste de la région d’Oyo. L’emblème est sublimé par la subtile patine qui atteste de son usage prolongé.
