Set with an oval onyx cameo depicting Menelaus, within a beaded and filigree surround in the Etruscan revival style, brooch and detachable pendant fittings.

Onyx black/very dark brown and white, opaque, with typical banded structure visible. Reverse with light inscription 'Filippo Verge ....'. Cameo carving in good condition, with some areas of extremely minor chipping to extremities, mostly along lower edge of robe. Open work border with some areas of solder visible, to front and reverse. Cameo measuring approximately 55 x 42mm, overall dimensions including frame and detachable pendant fitting approximately 81 x 60mm. Gross weight approximately 51 grams. Scratches to surfaces consistent with wear. In good condition, commensurate with age.
