Description

Designed in the renaissance revival style, the brooch surmount and detachable pendant composed of open work scrolls applied with blue, red, green and turquoise basse taille enamel, set with two pearls and cushion-shaped rubies and diamonds, the reverse with a glazed compartment and chased floral designs.
Condition
Rubies mid purplish red, good saturation, with minor typical inclusions visible under magnification, some surface-reaching, colour possibly enhanced by closed-backed setting. Diamonds bright and lively, estimated total diamond weight approximately 0.40 - 0.60 carats. Pearls of white body colour with green and rose overtones, central pearl measuring approximately 5.6 x 6.1mm, light scratches, pitting and banding to nacre. Areas of damage to enamel, some areas of damage and to enamel, with small areas of associated loss, left edge of pendant with residue, possibly as a result of restoration. Scratches to metal, stone, enamel and nacre surfaces consistent with age and wear. Areas of minor discolouration to metal. Brooch pin possibly later, closing securely. Overall dimensions approximately 50 x 84mm, gross weight approximately 31 grams. In good condition, commensurate with age.
