The three circular ashtrays of carved nephrite, each signed Cartier, French assay and maker's marks, stacking on a square base of polished onyx with coral posts topped with cabochon sapphires, overall dimensions approximately 88 x 89 x 60mm, French assay and maker's marks. 

Condition

Ashtrays each signed Cartier, Made in France to handles. Ashtray handles and top and base to each post on base stamped with French assay marks for silver and French maker's mark M.C with cog, for Maurice Couët. Onyx black, opaque, some extremely minor chips to edges. Coral orangey pink, opaque, with typical colour mottling and granular structure visible under magnification, some age cracks and areas of discolouration. Sapphires light blue, transparent, with typical inclusions visible to the naked eye, some surface-reaching. Nephrite deep green, translucent to opaque, with typical colour mottling and granular structure visible to the naked eye, some fissures surface-reaching, some extremely minor chips to edges and areas of wear around screws attaching handles. Metal with significant tarnish and discolouration. Some areas of glue residue around handles. Ashtrays each approximately 88 x 61 x 13mm including handles, base approximately 88 x 89 x 60mm including posts. Gross weight approximately 310 grams. Very light scratches to surfaces commensurate with age and occasional use, overall in good condition.
