Description
- Judith
- oil on canvas
- 39 7/8 by 32 in.; 101.4 by 81.3 cm.
Condition
The canvas is lined. The painting presents a striking image with some of the impasto preserved in the details of her dress. There are some abrasions to edges due to framing, with white scuff marks scattered here and there, like for example in lower edge, on arm at right, and upper left quadrant. A little craquelure is throughout, and might have some very faint lifting to the surface, especially on the exposed skin of the figure. What appears to be an old repair is at center right and fluoresces differently under UV. Further inspection under UV reveals some scattered spots of retouching on the background, especially at the top left quadrant, on the figure, most concentrated on her left breast, on the yellow and red robe, especially at bottom, and on the white robe she is wearing, primarily at lower right. The painting is offered in an elaborately carved gilded wood frame.
