Condition
Both canvases are lined. The decorative images read well beneath a clear varnish. The painting retains good details and in some areas the original impasto are intact, as seen with the white hues of the women's headdress and apron, as well as with the gentleman's socks. However, there also are a few scattered areas of thinness in the background. On the shoulder of the firework seller there is some more pronounced craquelure. Inspection under UV light reveals some possible old retouching beneath a slightly milky varnish, particularly concentrated in the background. The most noticeable retouching is visible above the lady's left shoulder and in a few spots in her costume, though these are not too distracting. The paintings are stable and could be hung in their current state. They are offered in matching elaborately carved, gilded frames.
