- 'Cupid and Psyche'. An ivory brisé fan, French, circa 1720-1730
- ivory, opal, ribbon
- 20.6cm., 8 1/8 in. long
the upper part painted with Psyche appearing in Cupid's dream, asleep in a garden by a river, the gorge painted with vignettes depicting Columbine and other chinoiseries, the reverse painted with figures in a riverscape with a castle among flowers, the sticks and guards also painted with chinoiseries, later gilt-metal and opal pivot, in a later red silk box stamped for 'Duvelleroy London'
Condition
overall very good condition and charming painting, some losses to painting especially on sticks. ribbon most likely replaced.
