Catalogue Note

A map of Texas used by Lindbergh in flight, signed by him ("Lindbergh") lower right and with an autograph partial course plotting in pencil. The course plotted here by Lindbergh is the concluding United States portion of a flight that must have originated in Mexico. The course runs virtually due north from near McAllen to San Antonio and is plotted in two sections, the first appears on the inset map of South Texas and the second continues on the main map. Lindbergh's mileage notations indicate that this portion of the flight accounted for the final 230 miles of a 500-mile flight.Lindbergh visited Mexico often, most notably in December 1927 when he visited the U.S. embassy in Mexico City at the invitation of Ambassador Dwight Morrow. During that visit he met Morrow's daughter, Anne, whom he would wed less than two years later.
