Catalogue Note

First edition. The volume offers the first substantial series of views of India, including the first depiction of the Taj Mahal, shown in the background of plate 15, "A View of the Fort of Agra".  According to Abbey, this is "probably but not certainly" the first issue with fewer text leaves than the later issue, without the publisher's imprint, and uncolored.
