Description

  • 14.4 cm, 5 5/8  in.
of cylindrical form, the exterior well carved in varying levels of relief depicting the lavishly dressed Er Qiao, one lying on an intricately carved daybed beside a large lotus arrangement, the other seated holding a book between them, the reverse with a twenty-character excerpt from Lu Qingzi's poem, denoting the astonishing beauty of the Qiao sisters, followed by the characters Tianru Nianweng (an old man of Heaven’s age) and signed Zifan, the patina of a rich reddish-brown colour

Condition

This brushpot has been broken in half and re-attached. There is a small area of dust/residue in the bottom of the interior. There is general wear to the surface, consistent with age and use.
