Condition

In overall very good condition with minor surface dirt, particularly in the crevices, consistent with age and handling. There are some natural grey veining and inclusions at some places consistent with the material, with two larger veins along the front proper right of bust as visible on the images. There are a few minor chips along the edges and at some places on the high points, consistent with age and handling as well.

Catalogue Note

Pupil of the painter Antoine-Jean Gros and the sculptor François-Joseph Bosio, Dieudonné was in great favor with the Orléans family and was commissioned several times by Louis-Philippe (various examples are on display in Versailles). A portrait of his eldest son, Ferdinand-Philippe, Duke of Orléans, is also offered in this sale.
