The Grand Lange 1 Lumen's sapphire crystal is treated with a special coating that blocks most of the visible spectrum of light, allowing the wearer to see the large date mechanism working while keeping the hours, minutes, and running seconds fully legible.  This is accomplished by making only the outer ring and the surfaces of the displays for hours and minutes as well as small seconds of blackened silver. The platinum version of Grand Lange 1 Lumen is produced in a limited edition of 200 watches, of which the present example is numbered 88/200.
