Catalogue Note

Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming the date of sale on December 26th, 1957. Accompanied by service quotations from Henri Stern Agency dated July 31, 2012, and a service receipt dated January 7, 2013. Together with a presentation case.
Ref. 2551 was produced from 1954 until 1960. It was replaced by Ref. 3433, which featured the cal. 27-460AT movement.

This model features the 12-600AT movement, an engineering marvel which made its debut at the 1953 Basel Fair. As the first automatic movement made by the firm, its debut was delayed until the Hans Wilsdorf's 1933 patent for a full-rotation self-winding movement expired. At the time of its release, it was one of the most highly-jeweled calibers for a time-only watch produced by Patek Philippe, or indeed any firm. Ref. 2526 was the first model to be fitted with the 12-600AT movement, and Ref. 2551 was the second to do so.

The present lot is in exceptional condition, with well defined stepped lugs and bezel, a beautifully preserved dial, and PP crown.
