Condition

CASE Case in overall fair condition with wear, scuffing, and small scratches consistent with age and use. Signs of previous polish. Case number to outside of case back and coronet heavily faded and worn, but still visible. Scratches to the back of lugs. Wear and scuffing throughout. DIAL Dial has been refreshed. Some small surface markings and debris throughout. Light oxidation to the applied indexes and hands. MOVEMENT Triple calendar function operating. MOVEMENT NUMBERED G4768 67128 The movement is running at time of cataloging, however it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Catalogue Note

Rolex produced two watches with moon-phases: the present model, reference 8171, with a snap on case back, and reference 6062, an Oyster model with a screw down case back. The reference 8171 was produced in small numbers during only 3 years, from 1949 to 1952.
