Condition
CASE
Case in overall very good condition with light wear and scuffs consistent with age and occasional use. Case overall with light and even oxidation. Backs of lower lugs with a scratch under close observation. Bands and bezel with some wear and superficial scuffs.
DIAL
Dial in very good condition. Two very small dark specs near the brand signature, especially under the first E of Geneve. An extremely small speck to the moon of the moon phase disc, discernable only under very close observation.
MOVEMENT
Perpetual calendar function working properly.
The movement is running at time of cataloging, however it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement.

Catalogue Note
Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin and Extract from the Archives confirming the date of sale on November 20, 1992 with applied Breguet numerals. Together with one additional 18k yellow gold Patek Philippe case back. The present lot is one of the first reference 5040 produced and dates from the introductory year of the model. The reference remained in production until 2007, and was one of the firm's most exceptional timepieces, combining the highly desired and iconic perpetual calendar with an exciting tonneau form case.
