Catalogue Note

Accompanied by a Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, instruction manual, setting pin, 18k white gold interchangeable solid case back and presentation box. As an alternative to the classic Ref. 3970, the Ref. 5020 was first introduced in 1994. Also known as the Patek TV set watch, this piece was produced with a dial and case reminiscent of a 1960s television set. The Ref. 5020 was not successful at its time of production due to the overall design and large size of this watch. As with many creations, this watch began to be appreciated only after it ceased production in 2002. In retrospect, this is an iconic reference ahead of its time and a trophy for any modern wristwatch collection.

According to our research, the present lot is one of only 8 examples of Ref. 5020 in white gold known to the market. Indeed, white gold examples are thought to be the rarest of all variants of Ref. 5020, with likely fewer produced in white gold than even platinum.
