Condition
This work is in good condition overall, taking its age into account. The colors are vibrant, and the media layer is stable. The sheet has been mounted to a foamcore backing. The work has been light-struck overall. Heavy creases with fine lines of craquelure and isolated minor tears run along the extreme right and left edges of the sheet, approximately ¼ inch from the edge. Under raking light inspection, a few isolated additional vertical fine lines of craquelure are become apparent throughout the work; the most noticeable among these are six raised vertical lines which run the length of the sheet in the central and right quadrants of the work, including one which runs through the body of the figure. An additional circular area of spiderweb craquelure measuring 1 ½ inches in diameter is present in the upper left quadrant, in the brown vertical leaf of the palm tree. Scattered, isolated pinpoint spots of media loss are present in the central quadrants of the composition, primarily concentrated in the areas of dark brown pigment surrounding the animals, trees, and figure. The most noticeable of these losses include isolated areas in the lower left quadrant. Circular areas of discoloration are present in the following locations: a 1-inch spot at the lower center edge, four inches from the figure; three ½-inch spots in the upper left corner below the signature; two ¼ inch spots in the lower right corner in the dark green field just below the white border lines.
