Description
The pendant designed as a flowerhead, centering an oval-shaped pink tourmaline, framed and accented by round diamonds and round emeralds, the necklace further set with two oval-shaped pink tourmalines and four cabochon sapphires, length 19¼ inches, the detachable pendant signed VCA, numbered 45152, with maker's marks; circa 1970; the earclips similarly-set with two pear-shaped pink tourmalines, one earclip signed Van Cleef & Arpels, one earclip numbered N.Y. 46139. With signed pouch.
Condition
In good condition, with light scratches to the mounting, commensurate with wear. Metal tests as 18 karat gold. One earclip signed, unnumbered; the other earclip numbered, unsigned. The tourmalines in the necklace stated to weigh 47.55 carats and in the earclips estimated to weigh approximately 14.80 carats; the tourmalines are medium pink, strongly saturated, and eye-clean to slightly included. The cabochon sapphires are medium light blue, moderately included. The emeralds are medium slightly bluish green, moderately to heavily included. The diamonds, stated to weigh 16.55 carats (necklace) and estimated to weigh approximately 2.30 carats (earclips), are E-F color, VVS-VS clarity. Necklace pendant detachable and may be worn on its own as a clip-brooch. The clasp of the necklace with later modifications. Necklace gross weight approximately 102 dwts. Earclips gross weight approximately 8 dwts. A photocopy of the Van Cleef & Arpels Insurance Valuation for the necklace dated March 5, 1976 available upon request.
