Catalogue Note
The attribution to Ostade was confirmed by Dr. Bernhard Schnackenburg at the time of the 1996 sale. As is the case with quite a number of the drawings that Ostade's pupil and heir Cornelis Dusart inherited after his master's death in 1685, the broad brown washes would seem to have been added by Dusart.
