Description
- Antwerp School, 1623
- The Judgement of Paris
- oil on copper
- 20.4 x 27.3 cm.; 8 x 10 3/4 in.
Condition
The copper plate is flat and stable. The paint surface is clean and the varnish is clear and even, and the bright colours well preserved. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals retouching throughout the arms and trunk of the central goddess' body. There are small, scattered retouchings throughout the flesh tones of the other figures and in the background, particularly around their silhouettes. None of these distract from the image and the painting is ready to hang without a need for further intervention. Offered in a plain, ebonised frame in very good condition.
