Condition

The canvas is lined, the paint surface is relatively clean and the varnish is discoloured. There are three square areas of visible retouchings, in the lower left corner, halfway along the upper edge, and in the lower right corner where some paint loss is also visible, as well as a small circular area of retouching in the sitter's right jaw and ruff. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals these underneath a milky varnish, as well as further retouchings in the proper right side of her ruff and coat, in her proper left jaw and to the right of her nose and lips, as well as a few scattered in her hair. In overall good condition.
