Condition

These photographs are in generally excellent condition. When examined in raking light, scattered deposits of original retouching are visible on some of the prints. The plates are as follows: 1. 'Pinnacles, Alabama Hills, Owens Valley, California, 1945' 2. 'Mudhills, Arizona, 1947' 3. 'Lone Pine Peak, Sierra Nevada, California, c. 1960' 4. 'Moon and Clouds, Northern California, 1959' 5. 'Forest and Stream, Northern California, 1959' 6. 'Petroglyphs, Monument Valley, Utah, 1958' 7. 'The Black Sun, Tungsten Hills, Owens Valley, California, 1939': 'Replacement print for one in circulating USIA show. Fungus may not come off of original photo' is written in an unidentified hand in pencil on the reverse of this mount. 8. 'Woman Behind Screen Door, Independence, California, 1944' 9. 'White Stump, Sierra Nevada, California, 1936' 10. 'Pipes and Gauges, West Virginia, 1939' The printed title, introduction, plate list, colophon, and statement by Nancy Newhall are in generally excellent condition. The spine of the beige cloth clamshell box is worn at the extremities.
