Condition
Grading this albumen print on a scale of 1 to 10--a 10 being an albumen print with deep brown dark tones and highlights that retain all of their original detail--this print rates a 6 or 7. As is visible in the catalogue illustration, there is some uneven yellowing, most notably along the left edge. The highlights are overall warm and the darks are somewhat muted. A high level of detail is visible, from the folds of her dress to the veins on the sitter's hands. Upon close examination, the following are visible: a few deposits of retouching, primarily in the lower left quadrant; a small crease that may break the emulsion at the tip of the upper right corner; and subtle silvering. The photograph is mounted to thick board, trimmed flush to the image. There is some rubbing and minor wear to the upper edge of the print and the mount, both of which appear to have been very slightly unevenly trimmed. The reverse of the mount is hinged with paper tape to the mat and it is darkened unevenly.
