Condition
In overall good condition with surface dirt, notably in the crevices. His proper left arm is missing below the elbow. His proper right foot is partly missing with possibly a small loss on the edge of the terrace. There are some lighter elements mixed in the terracotta. Very nicely modelled.

Catalogue Note
This bozzetto comes from the 1894 Carpeaux sale (no. 362) and was exhibited in Paris at the Fine Arts School from 20th to 28th May, 1894. This bozzetto is comparable to another terracotta by Carpeaux, entitled The Violinist, made in 1870 in tribute to his brother Charles who died in the same year (Grand Palais, inv. no. 370).
