Catalogue Note

Sir William Edward Parry (1790-1855), served as lieutenant on the frigate Alexander from 1810. It worked in the protection of the Spitsbergen whale fishery. During this time Parry made astronomical observations in northern latitudes, and afterwards published the results of his studies in this volume.
