Catalogue Note
A GOOD COLLECTION OF RARE PHOTOGRAPHS OF ARABIAN HORSES, and a few scenes, compiled by an unidentified person, possibly a French breeder, of horses in North Africa and Syria, including many at the stud of Sidi Thabet (Tabet) in Tunisia (founded in 1866), and the Haras Saint Georges.
The French, including the Emperor Napoleon, were early in recognising the enormous value of Arab bloodlines for the improvement of horse breeding, and many stallions were imported from North Africa, particularly Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco, and the Middle East.
