Catalogue Note

THE FIRST OCTAVO, BUT SECOND ENTIRE, EDITION OF THE BIBLE IN THE HAWAIIAN LANGUAGE. This edition is an extraordinary work of translation and scholarship. Both Testaments have separately printed title pages, the Old Testament bearing the Oahu Mission Press imprint while the title of the New Testament states printing in Honolulu. The verso of the Old Testament title contains the imprint "Ka Lua O Ke Pai Ana" ("the second printing"), which refers to the other printing of the entire Old Testament in 1838. Forbes notes that this Bible was an edition intended as a "Family Bible".
