Description

  • Height 5 1/8  in., 13 cm
of flattened form, the cockerel standing in profile nestling a baluster jar between its wings, a lotus sprig grasped in its beak, the blossoming leafy stem falling gently against the bird's neck and chest, the wings pressed against the body and carved in an archaistic manner with a coiled kuilong at each shoulder, the jar repeating the motif with an angular kuilong-form handle, the bird's legs and exaggerated curling plumage modeled as the openwork conforming foot, the domed cover with a cockerel-form finial, the stone a pale celadon color with faint russet passages and transmuting to dappled gray at the lower plumage (2)
