In-12 (182 x 110 mm). Demi-maroquin bordeaux à coins, dos à nerfs, tête dorée, couverture et dos (Loutrel). Piqûres éparses. Exemplaire de Georges Courteline qui facilita le retour de Verlaine dans la littérature. Édition originale.Tirage à 500 exemplaires sur vélin, pas de grand papier. "Comme le laisse entendre le titre, les poèmes de ce recueil reflètent une inspiration plus ou moins ancienne : vers non publiés dans les Poëmes saturniens, poèmes de Cellulairement non retenus dans Sagesse, dont un "Art poétique" qui fut alors considéré comme un manifeste symboliste " (Chr. Galantaris) Envoi autographe signé de l'éditeur au dramaturge Georges Courteline : "à l'ami Georges Courteline [P P ?] de Paul VerlaineL'éditeur Léon Vanier". Le sonnet "Langueur" (p. 104) est dédié à Georges Courteline dont Verlaine fit la connaissance en 1882, et qui l'aida à renouer avec la littérature en publiant Art poétique en novembre 1882 dans Paris Moderne, revue fondée avec Georges Madeleine, et éditée par Léon Vanier.
