Catalogue Note

Ostier Inc. was founded by Olivier Ostier, a third generation Austrian court jeweller, and his wife Marianne, who emigrated to New York following the Anschluss of Austria in 1938. Her creations reflected her earlier training in painting and sculpture, and her talent for design saw her receive several prestigious awards. The company was seen as one of the great jewellery houses of Manhattan until it was closed by Marianne in 1969, following the death of her husband as she felt that the increased administrative duties would compromise her artistic flair, 'which to me is unacceptable'.
