Catalogue Note
As Hans Nadelhoffer notes in his book 'Cartier', the nascent Art Deco style found its first iterations in jewellery in stick pins set with simple, geometric configurations of faceted stones, starting around 1906. The designer Charles Jacqueau joined the firm's design team shortly afterwards in 1909, and quickly became a leading exponent of this new style. The present stick pin demonstrates Cartier's development under Jacqueau of the simple, bold and unorthodox combinations of colour and materials that became one of their defining characteristics.
