Description

  • Length 3 1/8  in., 7.9 cm
the robust body standing four square, the head turning to the back and tail curling over along the right haunch, with sensitively carved grooves imitating creased folds of the skin, the softly polished stone with streaks of reddish brown

Gifted to The Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, in 1986 (acc. no. 1986.921).

Condition

The carving is in overall good condition with only minor expected wear to the surface, including minute shallow losses along the dark brown veins. The color of the stone is slightly more celadon (and less gray) than in the illustration in the printed catalog.
