Description

  • Length 6 in., 15.2 cm
carved in the round, comprised of a large ripe peach borne on a gnarled branch issuing unfurling leaves and a further smaller peach, a bat with wings spread on one side, the stone a pale celadon with milky white veining and a patch of russet

Provenance

Sotheby's New York, 19th March 1997, lot 90.

Condition

The carving is in mostly good condition, however, there is a small loss to a branch on the small peach, and two losses to two offshoots of the principal branch, as well as minor expected wear to the surface. The color of the stone is slightly more celadon than in the illustration in the printed catalog.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
