Description

  • Length 6 7/8  in., 17.5 cm
cast in the form of a sinuous dragon, the serpentine body in profile undulating with ribbon-like fins, at one end the dragon's head bent grasping a 'flaming pearl' in its ferocious jaws, the tail end issuing a hook terminating in a smaller serpent-like head, a knop at the interior for attachment, Lucite stand (2)

Condition

The buckle has two restored breaks through the top of the head and to the neck. The tip of the one of the horns is off. There are some filled repairs to eroded losses along the edge and it is possible that the areas of the incised decoration have been regilt. The surface with wear overall, small losses, some pitting and green and dark red accretions, particularly at the back.
