Description

  • Height 6 3/4  in., 17.1 cm
set upon a square-section throne, the lower and upper registers cast with high-relief lotus petals, chased with floral and vajra motifs, and inset with small colored stones, all supporting the 'four steps' leading to a rounded bumpa, the bumpa cast with beast masks suspending golden chains inset with stones, a petal-form shrine installed to one side of the bumpa, all surmounted by a square harmika, conical spire flanked by two teardrop-shaped appendages, and topped with a lotus-petal-form parasol and representations of the sun, moon, and 'jewel', the section above the harmika detaches (2)

Condition

In overall good condition. Some inlays remain. There is wear and pitting typical for age. There is a small spatter of green paint to the middle tier. The base with an affixed Christie's label. There are traces of blue pigment to the interior wall framed by the mandorla. The sun-moon finial with a minor dent and a minute chip to the crescent moon tip. There are minor compression areas and casting imperfections.
