Description
- Height 12 1/2 in., 32 cm
the proper right hand raised in vitarka mudra, each hand holding the ends of lotus stems, the blossoms of which flank each shoulder and bear a kundika and a book, the hair in a high topknot and applied with blue pigment, the elaborate jewelry inlaid with hardstones, the low-slung dhoti secured just below the shapely waist, with repoussé sashes trailing down either side of the body, raised on a circular lotus base, the base plate incised with a double vajra
Condition
Some inlays lost. Traces of blue pigment are in the hair. There is wear to the gilding, which has likely been refreshed. There was possibly once a crown, and a small fragment has been glued to the head. The attributes lean towards the shoulders. One vine broken below the foliage and reinforced with a metal ring. There is a small circular patch repair to the front lower hem. One sash broken, the other repaired. The base with a minor compression and the plate attached. The sashes possibly later soldered to the sides of the garment.
