naturalistically carved in the form of a trunk section, intricately detailed around the exterior with a mountainous landscape depicting scholars gathering and trekking on foot and horseback amongst towering pine tree and wutong trees emerging from craggy rockwork, the wood patinated to a warm lustrous dark brown color, the interior black-lacquered
Condition
The cup with a rectangular section of possibly replaced veneer along the base and foot of one side. There are consolidated cracks and splits, the longest from base to rim on the side with where the mouthrim narrows. There are scattered small chips and losses to the rims and carved details and surface cracks to the lacquered interior. The surface likely cleaned and with expected wear. The wood with characteristic fragrance.
