Description

  • Length 16 1/8  in., 41 cm
the undulating shaft and ruyi-form head coated in numerous layers of deep-crimson lacquer and carved in high relief with auspicious motifs against a fine diaper ground, the head displaying a selection of the 'hundred antiques', the double-gourd vase in the center inscribed daji ('may you be extremely lucky') and set with several fruit-laden pomegranate branches emerging from its narrow neck, the center of the scepter's shaft widening into a shaped lozenge filled with a beribboned vase containing blossoming prunus branches and a bowl holding three Buddha-hand citrons, the foliate-form terminus with a beribboned trio of peaches and a bat, the remainder of the shaft carved with the 'Eight Buddhist Emblems'

Condition

With a small section of the neck and the join at the head broken and repaired, and with scattered minor repairs to small losses to the edges and in the extremities of the carving. With a few scattered minute un-restored losses to the extremities of the carving as well.
