Description

  • Diameter 6 1/8  in., 15.6 cm
each finely painted in bright tones of cobalt blue with a central shou medallion encircled by four radiating floral bouquets enclosed by elegantly interlacing foliate scrolls within double lines repeated around the rim, the reverse with six similar floral sprays between linked scroll borders, the base with a six-character mark with a double circle (2)

Condition

One dish with a minor flake chip to the exterior rim; the other dish in overall good condition. Each with minor firing imperfections including visible burst glaze bubbles.

Catalogue Note

A Yongzheng blue and white dish of this pattern in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, is illustrated in Rose Kerr, Chinese Ceramics, Porcelain of the Qing Dynasty 1644-1911, 1986, London, pl., 14. A similar pair of dishes sold in our London rooms, 12th December 1989, lot 343 and more recently a dish of this type sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 8th October 2013, lot 3104.
