Catalogue Note

The present watch is a rare Audemars Piguet with an attractive square case that is affectionately known as 'Cioccolatone' to collectors due to its resemblance to a square piece of chocolate (a translation from Italian). For a watch from the 1950s, the size is relatively large and remains a great wear to this day. The case itself is retained in wonderful condition, with very crisp numbers on the back and nicely defined bezel and lugs.

What distinguishes this Audemars Piguet 'Cioccolatone' is the signature of the Swiss retailer 'Türler' that is visible on the dial above the subsidiary seconds at six o'clock. This double-signature is a rare addition and further confirmed by Audemars Piguet, who have records that this watch was indeed sold to Türler in 1953.
