Condition
MVT: is running at the time of cataloguing. CASE: in very good condition with sharp edges, nicely defined fluting to the lugs and very crisp hallmark to the band. There is only very light surface wear visible and there are some areas of oxidation, likely an indication that the watch was stored away for most of its life. DIAL: in very good condition with minor surface blemishes visible with the naked eye. Please note that the movement has not been tested for the accuracy of time and may need a service at the buyer's expense. Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement and we do not guarantee the authenticity of any individual component parts since subsequent repairs and restoration work may have resulted in the replacement of original parts. You are advised that watch straps or bands made of materials derived from endangered or otherwise protected species (i.e. alligator or crocodile) are not sold with the watch and we reserve the right to remove these straps or bands prior to shipping. Furthermore, the watch may not come with its original manufacturers strap or band. Prospective bidders should review the Conditions of Business, Authenticity Guarantee, the Guide for Prospective Buyers, and any Important Notice in the sale catalogue.

Catalogue Note
Reference 2481 was launched in 1950 and was one of the largest watches produced by Patek Philippe, hence it is sometimes referred to as the 'King Size'. The case has quite a particular profile with nice fluting to the sharply down-turned lugs and is one of only a few made by the Le Locle master case maker Bernard Dubois. The overall production is estimated only at around 1000 pieces, of which approximately 650 were cased in yellow gold such as the present example which is presented in great condition with a sharp case.
